un cadeau

My birthday is just two days away, and I am, of course, very excited. Recently, a coworker said she thought birthdays are silly things to get excited about. Well, that’s her problem. I LOVE THEM. I love my birthday. I love Tim’s birthday, and Marco’s birthday, and all of my friend’s birthdays. Its a day out of the year where we say, “Hey! You are you, and that is awesome! Here, have some cake.” What is not to love about this?

Also, sometimes, there are presents. Like I said, what is not to love? Here are a few items I’m wishing for:

My potential perfume! I like to switch up my scents every few years, and this one has made the cut. I ran out of Balenciaga Paris a few weeks ago and I feel naked.

Ash ‘Titan’ boots

TOMS ‘Desert’ bootie in Chestnut

Tell the Wolves I’m Home by Carol Rifka Brunt

Silpat silicone cookie sheet. The pastry chefs at Bouchon Bakery always used these, so I know they are good. :-)

Melie Bianco ‘Sylvana’ purse. I saw this in blue at a boutique and now I want both colors!

Tim ordered something online last week and it arrived today in a plain USPS box. Very suspicious.

Summer Wind

I’m so excited with the way my summer wardrobe is shaping up. With a few favorite pieces from years past, and some recent purchases, my wardrobe is rounding out nicely!

A few new pieces:

Vince Camuto ‘Miner’ sandal Mother’s Day gift from my mom! Woo hoo!

Soprano ‘Milla’ maxi – This dress is so silky soft, comfortable, yet elegant feeling. :D

Lush ‘Harper’ chiffon dress – I felt instantly lovely when I tried this on. Had to buy it.

Liz Lange for Target sunburst maxi – This is a maternity dress, but once I laid eyes on it I had to at least try it on. It doesn’t look like maternity – and the skirt is a swish-y material that makes me feel like a princess :-)

Mossimo ‘Perri’ – I think I need them in every color. Sexy AND comfortable

The Webster at Target ‘ Wallpaper Print’ dress - Timmy picked this out for me, and I love it! The blouson top and fun print are perfect for summer!

What are your summer staples?

Apples to Apples

After girling out via text with Micaela over Shabby Apple dresses we liked, I figured now was a good a time as any to post some of my current favorite looks from their shop!

‘Heart of Me’ faux wrap dress – I WANT THIS NOW!

‘The Red Queen’ lace dress – this will never not be pretty.

Dinner Group – the colors, the cut – all awesome.

Have you checked out their shop? What are your favorite dresses?

When all this rain goes away, here’s the first thing I want to wear…

I haven’t made a set on Polyvore in a while, but I’ve been thinking about lemon lime combinations and colors for a few days… and so here’s this:

GG 2012 Fashion

I just have to do my annual Golden Globes post!

This year was difficult for movies – Tim and I rarely get a chance to see them, and the past month has been…interesting; so I haven’t seen all that I’ve wanted to (“The Artist”, “The Descendants”, and “Hugo”, namely).  But, I have discovered the wonderful ‘Downton Abbey’, so I was EXTREMELY thrilled when they won for Best Television Mini-Series!! Other than that, I was glad that Martin Scorsese won for Best Director – Drama, because I really like him (especially his eyebrows and teeth; something about him is just effervescent! he’s so intelligent, talented, and interesting).

It was lovely to see Morgan Freeman acknowledged for the Cecile B DeMille Lifetime Achievement award; I’ve loved him since I was a kid (mom took me to see “Driving Miss Daisy”, “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves” and “Unforgiven” in theatres), and his performance in “The Shawshank Redemption” is AMAZING.

Ricky Gervais was less sneery than last year, which was kind of weird – I expected no holds barred. But, he’s still hilarious and I like watching him and waiting to see what he’ll do next.

NOTE: Meryl Streep smooched my man on television! I’ll have to scratch her.

Colin Firth with his lovely wife (darn it)

Anyway, on to the fashion!

Red carpet looks to die for…

Reese Witherspoon
Va-va-voom! I liked that she went a little sexier than normal! Must be the newlywed phase :D

 Salma Hayek

Madonna
I loved the bodice of  her dress, but the bottom was a little perplexing (and what was with the glove?)

Emma Stone
The dramatic coloring was different! I like this dress on her

Octavia Spencer
Once again, I love lavender for awards shows – and I love the neckline and sleeving – I want a dress like this.

Rooney Mara
She does look lovely in black, with her pale skin tone

Looks that confused me…

Zooey Deschanel
I adore her, and while I like the cut of the dress, the color combination didn’t feel right. And the weird sideburns! Ugh!

Sarah Michelle Gellar
I was glad to see this girl back in the spotlight, but couldn’t wrap my head around this one.

Lea Michele
Just awful.

Jessica Biel
Please fire your stylist, Jessica. You have a fantastic body, what is with the grandma gown?

What were your favorites? Any dress you deemed a ‘disaster’?

The call of fashion

I dream of a Parisian getaway, and in my fantasies I’m extremely well dressed while touring the beautiful city of lights. I created a Polyvore set to match. A fashion ‘soundtrack’, if you will!
