FILL IN THE BLANK FRIDAY! Thanks, Lauren! This week’s topic is that wonderful, yet elusive activity known as SLEEP.
1. The last thing I do before going to sleep is brush my teeth and take my Ambien.
2. When I can’t sleep I read, play games on my iPhone, or lie awake, tossing and turning in annoyance.
3. The first thing I do when I wake up is drink some water.
4. When I’m tired I this is hard to answer, because, quite frankly, I’m always tired.
5. My dream bedroom would be large and light-filled, with a wood-burning fireplace.
6. If I could wake up anywhere tomorrow morning it would be ITALY. I miss it there. Tim and I had such an amazing time.
7. The longest sleep I’ve ever had was 8 hours. SERIOUSLY. I never get much sleep, and even as a kid, I didn’t get more than 5 or 6 hours. Hence, the Ambien.
8. I sleep on my stomach, usually. It’s actually kind of weird: the most comfortable position for me is to be on my stomach, my head facing left, my right leg completely straight, and the left leg positioned at a 90 degree angle, like the yoga tree pose. Then, my left arm holds my left ankle, and my right arm is positioned under my belly. WHY IS THIS COMFORTABLE? I have no idea.

9. When I sleep, I like to wear nightgowns or a teeshirt and cotton pajama bottoms. In the winter, I prefer Tim’s pajamas because they are super-comfy.
10. My bedtime is usually 10:30

Mad Men has returned for the 4th season, which means Don Draper has returned…

Sterling Cooper Draper Price FTW!!
Then, I am going to see Patton Oswalt on August 29th with Micaela! Let the laughs commence.
AND, THE ULTIMATE AWESOMENESS…
Jimmy Eat World is releasing their new album, Invented, on September 28th, and Tim and I will be seeing them at the Warfield on September 30th!!!! HAPPY, HAPPY, JOY, JOY!!
I can’t wait!!
I love polka dots. I think they are just about the cutest design, and I own many things with this scheme. The iPhone camera isn’t the greatest, but I had to take pictures of my awesome polka-dotted apron from Anthropologie, a birthday gift last year from Adrienne. I was preparing the food for the BBQ on Saturday, and making sure the guest room was prepared; it was just too cute a photo op to pass up!

I also recently purchased a blue and white polka-dotted bikini from Target, and finally wore it while sunbathing in the backyard with Marco (well, I sat in the sun, and he enjoyed the covered patio). Ignore my whiteness – I am working on adding a hint of color!
Here’s Marco in the shade, with his toy giraffe, Sophie:
Yesterday Tim and I had some friends over for a BBQ to celebrate his birthday, and I made some fresh guacamole. Here’s a quick and dirty recipe for this delicious snack:
Michelle’s Fool-proof Guacamole
3 ripe Hass avocados, halved
1/4 cup cilantro, torn or chopped
1 cup cherry tomatoes, chopped
1 lime
Fresh black pepper, to taste
Using a spoon, scoop avocado into a bowl, and add the cilantro and tomatoes. Stir together. Cut lime in half and squeeze juice into mixture. Stir, and add black pepper to your liking. Good with tortilla chips and fresh veggies. So easy, and very tasty.
I’ve been semi-obsessed with Phoenix’s album for awhile…so you’ll have to excuse the constant references!
ANYWAY! Today is Timmy’s birthday!!
Now he’s 28 (so much closer to 30, which kind of freaks him out, ha ha). I try to console him with the knowledge that when he’s in his 30′s, he’ll still have a young trophy-wife in her 20′s, heh heh. I don’t think it’s working.
Nevertheless, it is another day in which we celebrate my fantastic husband, and Marco’s awesome dad- our Timmy!!
Happy birthday, darling! I love you.
As most of my friends will attest to, I firmly believe that I was born in the wrong decade! I’m very attracted to the fashion, literature, architecture, automobiles, and music of the 1920′s, and would love nothing more than to spend my days wearing cloche hats, buckled heels, reading the latest issue of Collier’s (heh heh), and sipping champagne.
P.S. ‘Bernice Bobs Her Hair’ is a short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald; it was one of the first pieces I read by Fitzgerald.
Currently finishing up This Is Where I Leave You by Jonathan Tropper. It’s well-written, but not very funny (and for a book lauded as ‘hysterically funny’, that’s a problem).
My hubby’s 28th birthday is on Friday! I love birthdays. On Saturday, we’re having some friends and family over for a BBQ to celebrate.
Gotta do a deep cleaning on the house!
On the baby front, Marco is sleeping SO much better! He falls asleep after his last evening feeding, usually at 10pm and doesn’t wake up until around 4:30am, sometimes later! I am so thankful that we started him on a schedule right away; his feedings are like clockwork now. Marco is also smiling all the time! I love seeing his little gummy grin. He’s cooing a lot, trying to communicate. So cute.
On Sunday, Tim and I saw this license plate:
THIEF!! My nickname as a little kid was ‘Mad’, Marco’s full initials are ‘M.A.D.’ and we both are M.D. This should belong to us! Grr…
Today we took a walk to the post office, and then headed to Starbucks. He fell asleep on the way, as usual! I can’t get him to stay awake very long when he’s in his car seat /stroller. Too comfy, I guess!
He’s just too beautiful!
Lovely little butterfly.
I love to watch you flutter by.
Oddly colored moth
You…might be eaten by a sloth?
Therein ends my attempt at nature poetry, ha ha.
Anyway, there’s more polyvore fun for the whole family…
P.S yes, I checked wikipedia to find out what sloths eat; mainly leaves, but occasionally they supplement their diet with insects and small birds. So there.
