This weekend was relaxing. I had a lovely Thanksgiving with Micaela and her family (my extended family). Monica and Mike are my ‘other parents’ and are ab-fab. :) I love talking to people that have good heads on their shoulders, sound advice and the experience to back it up. Monica is a fantastic cook, so even though I’m vegetarian, I had plenty of delicious food in my tummy. Her chocolate-chip pecan pie with shortbread crust was dreamy. Friday I worked in the morning, but spent the afternoon feeling weak and tired, so I napped. Tim got me salad and pizza for dinner. What a good husband. :)

On Saturday, our friend Adan came over to see our house and hang out. We hadn’t seen him since my birthday dinner in September, so it was good times. For dinner we went to Pacific Blues in Yountville; we used to eat there once a week when we lived in town. Its good, casual comfort foods. It was nice to revisit the yummy baby spinach salad. However, I must confess, I also had onion rings. :)

The most exciting thing in the past two weeks: I bought a pair of boyfriend jeans by Rich & Skinny online, in a size 26. They are slightly loose in the waist. Needless to say, they are my favorite jeans. :)

Haven’t gained any pregnancy weight yet, which is good, I guess. Its hard, I feel so disconnected with my body, when I feel like I should be more in tune with it. Most of this pregnancy stuff has had a feel of…watching the Discovery Channel. “Whoa, how cool!” but at the same time “This has absolutely nothing to do with me.” I told Tim last night this pregnancy is like global warming: I know its happening, but at the same time I’m not experiencing it up close. I’m no polar bear on a lonely ice cap. I know I’m pregnant, and I know that it is causing me to feel constantly exhausted. That’s where it ends. I go to the doctor, I see the sonogram, and the whole thing is neat and amazing. But, its hard to feel anything else. I don’t feel like I love it. I am looking forward to finding out the sex, and meeting the baby…but I still feel nothing right now.

Sourdough Bread Bowl

with vegetarian chili is normally a very delicious meal around the Dickson house. However, when said chili is inexplicably so spicy that it makes you cry, things tend to end well for Chloe. She loves spicy leftovers.

This weekend was fairly busy, but I did find time to take pictures of the Gomer family for their christmas cards:

We stopped in at Ameoba. It was my first time at one of their stores, and though I couldn’t spend much time OR money at this trip, I did manage to purchase a used copy of What’s the Story, Morning Glory? (lost to me since a damned dirty ape stole my cd’s, including this much-beloved Oasis album); Thrice’s new album, Beggars, as Tim only had a promo copy, and MY VERY FIRST VINYL….Bob Dylan’s Highway 61 Revisited. I can’t wait to actually play the darn thing. Its one of my favorite albums <3.

TEAM EDWARD

Because he’s the person I’d be more attracted to in real life (shy, literary & musically inclined), but there were a few times during the movie where Jacob’s muscles caused me to squee internally (unlike the 100 teenage girls in the audience who screeched everytime he took his shirt off). As you can probably guess, I saw ‘New Moon’ yesterday. I think it was better than ‘Twilight’; it lost some of its cheesiness and the special effects are getting better. I would give it 3 out of 5 stars. Kristen Stewart’s acting still caused me to cringe at intervals, but maybe that will get better with the next few flicks.

The soundtrack, however, is a disappointment. Most of the music worked well within the scope of the movie, but as a cd, it fails to live up to the soundtrack of ‘Twilight’. After listening to all 15 tracks, I ended up liking only 6. Bummer.

Book recommendation

If you’re a fan of Bob Dylan, folk-music, sixties-nostalgia or even just a fan of reading interesting memoirs, then I’d tell you to check out A Freewheelin’ Time: Greenwich Village In the Sixties by Suze Rotolo. Its interesting and full of interesting references to the music, politics and art of the time. It does, of course, devote a good amount of space to her relationship with Bob Dylan, and gives a new glimpse into the character of a man who is so often both mysterious and completely open.

Hurrah for a good read

I NEVER, ever, ever am tempted to write a letter to the editor of any fashion magazine praising its work. Usually, its all just fluff and I read them for the fun celebrity interviews and to look at the eye-popping fashions on the runway. Yesterday, however, I had to actually pry myself away from the December issue of ELLE magazine. Seriously! The interview with Alec Baldwin was fantastic. I’ve never been a big fan of his, but this interview changed all of that. I also loved the piece on the writer trying to be a kinder human being, the true story of a woman who attempted to use her sexuality to get ahead at work, the quick Q&A with John Cusack, and even the articles on the new fashion week whiz-kids were more interesting than usual! I bought the magazine because Sarah Jessica Parker was the cover girl, but I read every article with supreme delight. KEEP IT UP, ELLE!

10 Week Survey

How far along? 10 weeks and 6 days (farther along than originally thought)

Total weight gain/loss: I thought I’d gained a few pounds, but it was confirmed that I am back to my pre-pregnancy weight.

Maternity clothes? nope

Stretch marks? no

Sleep: still awful

Best moment this week: seeing my baby moving around during the sonogram

Movement: can’t feel it, but it is moving!

Food cravings: still no real cravings; still love salads and veggie sandwiches.

Gender: we don’t know yet

Labor Signs: n/a

Belly Button in or out? still in

What I miss: sleep, same as always

What I am looking forward to: my next appointment and the 2nd trimester to start

Weekly Wisdom: nothing new to share; I do feel lucky to have almost zero morning sickness. I have had to throw up once, and it was because I took my prenatal vitamin before eating instead of during a meal.

Milestones: baby is the size of a fig, has arms and legs and a good spine :)

Fig

Yesterday I had another appointment with my midwife/NP, Sue. Tim and I were really excited because we were hoping to see more of the baby on the sonogram. I was very pleasantly surprised to find that I don’t have to do anymore internal sonograms. She squirted that jelly right onto my tummy and passed it over, and this is what we saw:

My baby was dancing around like crazy! Tim said, “This is so freakin’ cool!” when it started to wave its arms and legs. I have never seen anything so awesome in my life. :) Sue did tell us that I am farther along than originally thought, and will be due approximately June 2nd. My next appointment is in 4 weeks, and I am hoping that we can get an idea of the sex of the baby. I REALLY hope its a girl! Right now, the baby is the size of a fig. I love figs, especially on pizza, so this week I’ll have to avoid them or I’ll feel funny. I had to give so much blood yesterday for prenatal testing that I felt pretty weak after. Initally, we weren’t going to do the testing because I wasn’t sure how I’d feel if there were negative results. There is no history in either of our families of any genetic or mental defects (other than insanity, LOL) so I don’t expect to see anything, but it did give me something else to worry about. In the end, Tim and I decided to go for it; we’d rather know ahead of time so we can prepare.
In other news, we’re trying to sell the blasted Jeep, and so far have not been very successful. I ended up listing it on Vehix as well as craigslist.com, so maybe that will bring in a buyer so I can pay off my credit card. Joy of joys, the new doors finally arrived and will be installed shortly! They’re going to make our house look fabulous. :)
LOL of the week:
