My little town was a hot bed of gossip and shock today, owing to the news of a murder having taken place in the wee hours of morning. The guy was only 26 years old. One of the housekeeping staff at the Inn lives on the street where it occurred, and was visibly shaken. The crime rate in Calistoga is so low that in the comparison census Tim and I looked at, it barely registered in the 1-percentile; this is apparently the first murder in years.
Not related, but its funny: The other day, while grabbing some Pink Lady apples from CalMart, I overheard a girl telling her friend “Hey, grab yer socks!” whilst her friends laughed and seemed confused. She then tried to explain “Don’t you remember when Britney Spears’ ex tried to be, like, a rapper?” LOLs galore.
Is it just me, or did May and June slip away a little too quickly? I don’t remember July ever arriving in the blink of an eye.
LOL of the week:

Yes, I know this blog is kind of all over the place but my mind follows its own train of thought. I don’t even bother trying to derail it.
…just an observation. I hate all those fluffy pastel-colored books that are aimed at women. The plots are so terrible its hard to believe people actually enjoy reading them.
Onto better literature: I was reading ‘The Quiet American’ by Graham Greene but I stopped halfway to re-read ‘Mansfield Park’ by Jane Austen. I’m back onto the Greene but I’m not hooked. We’ll see how it goes.
Lolcat of the week:

This is Stabler today…he’s hiding in a Zappos box as we speak.
Currently Reading: The Quiet American by Graham Greene
is my 2nd favorite cereal. Also only 100 calories per serving and 0 grams of fat. I like that in a food item. Its a noble quality to have.
No work for the next few days. Really slow this week at the Inn, which is odd because last week we were booked every night, and next week looks to be the same.
The concert last week was awesome. The first band was terrible and the second had no stage presence. It was weird, the music was upbeat and fun-sounding, but the guys in the band didn’t look like they were having any fun. Even when they performed a few tricks (linking arms to play the other’s guitar while strumming their own) they were given as such…just a little trick, nothing exciting. BLAH to that. But JENNY LEWIS was fabulous! I love her even more after seeing her live. She started with a song I hate ‘See Fernando’ (ugh!) but she sang ‘Acid Tongue’, ‘Trying My Best to Love You’, ‘The Next Messiah’, ‘Happy’ and ‘Melt Your Heart’ and that made me very happy. Munching on apples and listening to good music with your best friend is a good night.

Stabler (my cat) has taken a dislike to my glasses. He looks at me suspiciously whenever I wear them, like “Who ARE you!?” Its a little frightening, especially because he comes right up to my face when he does it.
